Ryan Knutson: And in effect, it essentially works just by basically suppressing people's appetites so they eat less.Īndrea Petersen: That is a major way that it works, yes. So when that happens, you feel fuller longer. And when people took Ozempic, they often lost weight.Īndrea Petersen: Basically, it slows down the emptying of the stomach. It's actually a drug designed to treat type two diabetes, which is the type of diabetes that can appear later in life, often among people who are heavier. But it wasn't supposed to be used for weight loss. Ryan Knutson: Weight Watchers says it's drop in membership has been due in part to a company decision to shift marketing dollars.Īs Weight Watchers was struggling, a new class of drugs was just taking off. So obviously they're looking for ways to try to reverse that decline. That's a pretty significant decline.Īndrea Petersen: Yeah, yeah. They just reported their fourth quarter earnings, and the number of subscribers slid to 3.5 million from 4.2 million in the year ago quarter. And also their stock price has really struggled, and their membership has been down. They tried kind of personalized diet plans that many members found pretty confusing and also harder for members to talk to each other and about their experience because everyone was sort of on a different plan and so the kind of community support and sharing recipes and tips and tricks was really not working as well. They also launched and scaled back a number of initiatives. And they largely stopped using the word diet and they tried to refocus their mission as being sort of more broadly about wellness. So in 2018, Weight Watchers actually really shifted away from this tight focus on weight loss. It's been a sort of turbulent time at the company. Ryan Knutson: How has Weight Watchers' business been doing in recent years?Īndrea Petersen: They have been struggling. And the goal is to stay within that number of points to sort of achieve your weight loss goals. And so you decide how you're going to spend those points. And you are given a certain number of points that you can use each day. The company has weigh-ins, branded food, and a famous point system.Īndrea Petersen: What they've done is they've assigned a point value to many, many, many foods. And they did it by pushing lifestyle changes. It's Tuesday, March 14th.Ĭoming up on the show how a new class of drugs is revolutionizing the weight loss industry.įor decades, Weight Watchers was one of the most popular ways for people to lose weight. Ryan Knutson: Welcome to the Journal, our show about money, business, and power. I think people do believe that this is a significant scientific advance and that it marks a real shift in the treatment of obesity. Ryan Knutson: Is it possible that these drugs could just be another fad?Īndrea Petersen: I haven't heard that from anybody I've talked to. Ryan Knutson: These drugs are so revolutionary that even traditional weight loss companies are trying to get in on the game.Īndrea Petersen: Weight Watchers, which is a 60 year old weight loss company, that for the longest time, its whole kind of reason for being is to help people control their eating and up their fitness, and now they are getting into a medical approach to it, and that is a big shift. I've been down overall 30 pounds.Īndrea Petersen: But also by people in the field who really do believe that this is a game changer. Speaker 5: So for my personal experience, it's been really, really good. Speaker 4: I just start dropping pounds left and right. Speaker 3: I started Ozempic four weeks ago at 172 pounds. She says these drugs, known as GLP-1s, and with names like Ozempic and Wegovy, have become hugely popular lately.Īndrea Petersen: There's been a lot of very sort of breathless testimonials from regular people, from celebrities, from online influencers. Ryan Knutson: That's our colleague, Andrea Petersen. It is sort of the first medication that has really significant efficacy. It's a new class of drugs.Īndrea Petersen: It's much more effective than anything that has been seen on the market before. The Atkins Diet, the South Beach Diet, the keto diet, and the latest craze isn't a diet at all. Ryan Knutson: There have been a lot of fads in the world of weight loss. This version may not be in its final form and may be updated. This transcript was prepared by a transcription service. It wasn't a bad system, in fact, a very good one. The PSP did amazingly well, the PS3 blew out of the water at the end of it's cycle, but the Vita was staggered by Sony's decisions by doing so many things wrong. Honestly, it's pretty much Sony's only failure of a system. Lack of first-party also killed interest, too. Not to mention, the PS4 sold very well, which surprised Sony after the PS3 sales weren't meeting up to standards, so they threw the Vita as the "it's there, you can buy it I guess" system. The AT&T 3G on the Vita threw some people off, and memory cards for the Vita were extremely expensive, compared to using any regular one that can be supported. Handhelds pretty much lost interest around 2011-2012, although things are way different now, but people were into the whole smartphone craze, same with the 3DS, although it sold reasonably well. The reason they did give up on the Vita, though, are number of factors. But I couldn't help the fact that Japan is Sony's homeland, and should honestly bring back a system that many would buy because of portability. You know a lot of people have been buying handhelds recently, especially the PSP and Vita.) Who wouldn't want to play PS4 or older games on a new handheld, not to mention possibly integrating the DualSense features and itself into it. (Btw, I know the Switch is a hybrid, but honestly, Sony could really make a two-front thing here, answering for both the people interested in mobile and console markets. Why can't there be another person to sideline it? Valve is rumored to do the same thing because it's been so successful. Just don't use those overpriced memory cards, and I'm sure people will consider it this time around. So, it would make perfect sense to do one now. They're really interested in the mobile market (surprisingly, Jim Ryan said it wasn't back in 2019, but look who laughing now). Not to mention, it wouldn't take serious parts to make it. Why can't Sony make another handheld? I understand phones are cheaper, but Japan and pretty much a large part of Asia would absolutely tear that stuff up now. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, however, could only muster 14,663 units. This one isn’t so bad actually, as you could feasibly pick up a pre-owned copy of the original PS4 game and upgrade it, which we’re sure many savvy gamers did. Nevertheless, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade managed just 20,889 units. Obviously, trends worldwide have slowly started to skew towards the PS Store, so that’s important context here. Obviously there’s important context here: Famitsu’s data – which this article is based on – only includes physical sales, so we don’t know whether these games are selling better digitally. The problem is that software is not selling well at all – at least not at retail, anyway. The latter may not particularly surprise you, but it was a source of many memes at the beginning of the generation. It’s still not particularly spectacular, but in terms of hardware units it has overtaken the PS4 and PS Vita when launch aligned, and is now catching up to the Nintendo Wii U. Now that stock is slowly becoming more available, the PlayStation 5 is selling much better in Japan. To me, it already feels like you’re a year older. It was built alongside the 308-348 ranges as the more practical Ferrari. The Mondial was designed to combine the features of a sports car with a comfortable GT. It is the also the car that gets the most shade from Ferrari fans, often called the worst Ferrari ever. Practical, sound great and with loads of room for the kids, the Mondial is the everyday Ferrari. Exterior differences included metric wheels and Michelin TRX tires along with changes to the front grille running lights. Fuel injection also made it easier for federalizers to calibrate the ever-tightening emissions standards. In 1981, further refinements were made for the last series, the 512 BBi, which included Bosch K-Jetronic fuel-injection with more low-end torque for better tractability and a dual-plate clutch for better city driving. Its new naming convention gave reference to the engine’s 5.0L displacement and the flat 12-cylinder layout. The 512 BB has refinements to the drivetrain, including dry-sump lubrication, an increased compression ratio of 9:2.1 and larger rear wheels for better handling of the added power. The Berlinetta Boxer platform was updated in 1976 with the 512 BB. Gone was the old front-engine 365 GTB Daytona and in was the 365 GT4 BB. The debut of the 365 GT4 BB happened in 1971 at the Turin Motor Show. Race cars were already using a mid-engined layout but it was the Lamborghini Miura that made Ferrari accelerate their plans for a mid-engined supercar. Dino 246 production numbered 2,295 GTs and 1,274 GTSs, for a total production run of 3,569.ĭesigned by Leonardo Fioravanti of Pininfarina, the Berlinetta Boxer was the first of the Ferrari mid-engine road cars that changed the supercar market. Three series of the Dino 246 GT were built, with differences in wheels, windshield wiper coverage, and engine ventilation. Widely regarded as one of the best-handling cars of its era, the Ferrari Dino’s mid-engine layout proved a radical leap in road car design when it was released in 1968. The "Dino" name was a tribute from Enzo to his late son, who had died in 1956 from effects of muscular dystrophy. Enzo chose a V-6 engine design that his son Alfredo (Dino, for short) had helped develop for racing with lead engineer Vittorio Jano. Designers presented Enzo with sketches of a small, sexy mid-engine sports car and Enzo relented and agreed to build the car, but only if it had a less-powerful engine. The legend goes that Enzo Ferrari was concerned that his buyers did not have the skills to manage a mid-engined sports car. Finally, we create a page for the very rare, very special Ferrari one-offs and Ferrari limited edition models (think less than a few dozen unit cars).įerrari had mid-engine layouts in their racing cars, but to date all of its road cars were front-engined V12s. We create a page for official Ferrari concept cars and the current Ferrari model lineup, as well as a page dedicated to the iconic Ferrari supercars and hypercars. We create a separate page for Ferrari Race Cars, where we did into the early Ferrari sports car prototypes and the full list of Ferrari Formula One models too. There were also too many models on this page so we split the page up. First of all, we added some basic information and a description to each Ferrari model to give you more relevant data. If you have visited this page before you will notice some changes. Also worth noting, if a model is still in production, then it didn't get its own section yet. Classic V12 front-engined Ferraris were grouped together. Current models are first, and then we take you through all the legacy and discontinued Ferrari models. We grouped most of them by family/platform since that is the most logical way. Since the 1970s things have settled down, so it is easier to organize Ferrari models and harder to miss any. As was typical, a bare chassis was delivered to the coachbuilder of the customer's choice. Customers decided on the chassis and engine with the factory and then chose an Italian coachbuilder to make the bodywork. In the early days of Ferrari, having a custom bodywork was the norm. The early Ferrari road cars are hard to figure out. It wasn't till 1948 that we got the first Ferrari road car, the Ferrari 166 Inter. For eagle-eyed observers, we split this page into several sub-pages so don't freak out and read on before telling us we missed a Ferrari model.įounded by Enzo Ferrari in 1939 out of the Alfa Romeo race division as Auto Avio Costruzioni, the company built its first car in 1940. We took over 70 years of Ferrari amazingness and got it all down on one page. Find the current model list, vintage Ferraris and model lists by year. Painstakingly researched & updated for each model year. Contents: Current Models / Legacy Models / Supercars & Hypercars / One-offs & Specials / Concept Cars / Race Cars Every Ferrari Ever Made Let’s look at a real example, here we plotted point A at (5,6) then we rotated the paper 90° clockwise to create point A’, which is at (6,-5). If you take a coordinate grid and plot a point, then rotate the paper 90° or 180° clockwise or counterclockwise about the origin, you can find the location of the rotated point. Let’s start by looking at rotating a point about the center (0,0). Here is a figure rotated 90° clockwise and counterclockwise about a center point.Ī great math tool that we use to show rotations is the coordinate grid. We specify the degree measure and direction of a rotation. The angle of rotation is usually measured in degrees. The measure of the amount a figure is rotated about the center of rotation is called the angle of rotation. Another great example of rotation in real life is a Ferris Wheel where the center hub is the center of rotation. A figure can be rotated clockwise or counterclockwise. A figure and its rotation maintain the same shape and size but will be facing a different direction. We call this point the center of rotation. More formally speaking, a rotation is a form of transformation that turns a figure about a point. There are other forms of rotation that are less than a full 360° rotation, like a character or an object being rotated in a video game. The wheel on a car or a bicycle rotates about the center bolt. The earth is the most common example, rotating about an axis. Hello, and welcome to this video about rotation! In this video, we will explore the rotation of a figure about a point. The game starts to address the story arc from original Dreamfall and even the dialog seems the get better (and wittier) at times. Also, while Book 3 mostly has the same problems as the previous two books, the story starts to pick up some speed. To be fair, the Kian story arc has some interesting parts even in Books 1 & 2. This might be alleviated in future, if they decide to change to newer Unity version. Even in high-end system it can have framerate issues and in many older systems it might be pretty much unplayable. Unfortunately it has some performance issues. Except the animations, the game actually looks quite nice. Often you know what you're supposed to do, but just can't figure the where to click or the correct order of clicking things. It's very easy to miss objects you can interact with. The overall tone of this game is very monotone. The original Dreamfall had better animations 10 years ago. Even when the narrative tries to convey some kind of emotion, the characters just stand still with blank expression on their face. 2) The facial and other character animations are just bad. Too much pointless running around with no apparent reason. Most characters are uninteresting, dialog is mediocre, themes and story arc from original Dreamfall are not touched at all. To sum it up: 1) Nothing of consequence happens story-wise in Books 1 & 2. Being third installment of great adventure series it has so much potential of being fantastic game. Being third installment of great adventure series it has so much potential of being This game makes me sad and frustrated at the same time. This game makes me sad and frustrated at the same time. I happen to also really enjoy The Secret World - and wish Ragnar and Martin Bruusgard were still a part of that team. For me its an excellent game but not as good as The Longest Journey, Dreamfall. Having been a huge fan of Ragnar's work in the past, this does not disappoint if you go into it understanding that its more narrative than game. All in all its a deep and rich story and worth playing to experience. So much so that I quit playing for a couple of weeks and then just slogged through that section to get on with the story. There is not much in the way of game play and there is a section with searching for Saga's pictures that was infuriatingly unnecessary. Character models are a bit stiff and movement is a bit wonky at times. The voice acting is well done and the visuals are decent to great. As usual, with Ragnar Tornquist at the helm, the writing is top notch and is a great narrative driven game. The first books were a bit slow but the pace really picks up in book 4. As usual, with This is more visual novel with alternate endings. This is more visual novel with alternate endings. |
